The British pavilion was designed by the architect Edwin Alfred Rickards and built in 1909 on the site of the existent café-restaurant constructed in 1887. Since 1938 the British Council has been responsible for the pavilion management.

In 2020 M+B Studio was appointed Pavilion Management Company, having awarded the Tender process. In that role M+B provides the ordinary management services throughout the year as well as specialist support to the British Council for the preparation and presentation of its Art and Architecture exhibitions as part of the Biennale di Venezia.
